A letter from the Founder of Times of Your Life Media

 Welcome to Times of Your Life Media.,

I was a network television producer for 18 years before I started “Times of your life Media”. Why did I wait so long? For one thing, it took me that long to realize that home movies can be more entertaining then what you see on America’s funniest home Videos and most reality television programs for that matter.  It was also realizing that properly edited home movies are a powerful communicator that can change your life by showing the ones we love just how much we care about them, without boring them to tears in the process.

After waiting for years to tackle editing my own home movies I decided to use my god given talents to edit together a professionally produced documentary on our family vacations at the beach. After countless hours of collecting, going out on interviews, digitizing hours of media, I finally sat down and began the task of putting together a project that rivaled the effort that I had put into some of the network television programs I had produced.

Something magical happened as I watched the hours and hours of home movie material that I had to edit down into a presentable program. First I realized that I would have to shoot better home movies, second I realized that I would have to shoot less footage and third and most important, I connected with my family again. After four weeks of heavy editing sessions I finally managed to edit down over 65 hours of video tape, a few hundred still photographs, music and narration into a 60 minute documentary on our family beach vacations spanning fifteen years. When I was finally finished I invited all of my family members over, bought some pizza, put in the DVD and let it rip,

At that moment, a real miracle happened. From the opening title to the closing Hollywood style fake ending, everyone laughed, cried and reflected on what a wonderful time that we had had during those vacations. Our children got to see us at the beach before they were born, and they got to see us as parents taking care of them as through out the years they went from being babies to the teens that they are now.

With all of the media that these kids have available to them I can tell you that this DVD has become the most important DVD in their entire collection of anything. They are constantly telling me how they watch it over and over again and how they laugh, cry and remember each time they watch and relive all those wonderful moments. Moments that unless you take the initive and do something to preserve them will be gone forever.

Here’s what makes the difference. First of all, there is no way you are going to get your family together to watch forty hours of home movies material. Just won’t happen. And even if it did, there is no way that watching unedited home movies is going to elicit the same emotions that a finely produced family film can. Producing high quality family films is no different then producing a National Geographic special. A lot of preparation and production goes into producing a high quality family documentary or film. In the hands of a professional producer your family films becomes a work of art.

There really is something to all this family film stuff that this article can not properly capture. With a properly produced family film, the whole family gets together to produce it, and then watch it, and that in its self is a real accomplishment given the complex world that most of us have built around ourselves. When finished it is also something that can be sent out or posted online to family and friends who have moved and fanned out across the globe, as a way to bring everyone a little closer together. The most important thing is that these family films give your family, is a living record of the life that they have lived together. In the span of a lifetime, this period is way too short. Our films manage to help you to make it a lifeitime.  

The family film can come in all different length and topics. Some can be as complex as a full blown documentary on one of your family members or as simple as having a professional producer/photographer spend the day with your family and putting together a short film on the day in the life of what it’s like to be your family. The important to realize here is the raw power of a professionally produced family film. 

Your family media can be more then just a scattered collection of pictures and video tapes. Put together properly they can become more valuable then the world’s largest diamond or a fancy sports car. When all is said and done, your diamonds end up being fought over by greedy relatives, your sports car ends up in the used car lot and you end up a deleted social security number. But your family media has the potential to live on and influence people for eternity. In a sense, it is the closest thing that we have at this point to immortality.
